We have pleasure in confirming details of our first regional meeting for careers teachers and education advisers in Scotland. This will take place at Fettes College, Carrington Road, Edinburgh, EH4 1QX, Scotland.

The future of work, shaped by technology, threatens graduate jobs, even in traditional professions. So how do we equip students for their future, not the world we know? For 30 years employer requirements and graduate roles have seen little variation, but a review of key sources and feedback from employers suggests a change has begun. This presentation will draw upon current perspectives on the future of work, examples of emerging practice across UK Higher Education and developments in the UK graduate job market, to identify the challenges and opportunities for educators and advisers in preparing students for their future.

Nalayini Thambar is the Director of Careers and Employability at the University of Nottingham which has campuses in the UK, China and Malaysia. A Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a qualified careers adviser, her work has involved teaching, professional practice and leadership across all areas of student employability. Her doctoral thesis was an exploration of the professional identity of university careers advisers in a changing employability climate. As Director of Quality for the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services, Nalayini is responsible for establishing professional standards and quality assurance processes for careers and employability activity across UK higher education.
